Technology enrollment is up 23% in a single year at Moroccan public universities — while traditional Islamic studies enrollment is down 19%

Among new entrants to Morocco’s public universities in 2024-25, the field of Technology grew faster than any other, up 22.9% on the previous year — followed by Sports Science (+15.2%) and Teacher Training (+10.7%).
At the other end, Enseignement Originel — traditional Islamic studies — saw new entrants fall by 18.7%, the steepest decline of any field, followed by Paramedical studies (-11.5%) and Medicine and Pharmacy (-7.7%).
The pattern suggests a fast-moving reallocation of student interest toward technical and vocational fields, even within a single academic year. Whether this reflects labour-market signalling, capacity expansion in these fields, or shifting student preferences is a question worth tracking as more editions of this data become available.
