The first World Access to Higher Education Day (WAHED) is taking place on November 28th, 2018.
This global initiative is led by the National Education Opportunities Network (NEON), the UK’s professional organization for widening access to high education, and is sponsored by NCUK, the trading arm of the Northern Consortium charity.
World Access to Higher Education Day will serve as a platform to raise global awareness on inequalities in access to higher education. It will also be an opportunity to highlight and share best practices and a catalyst to spur international, regional and local action.
In every country in the world where we have evidence it shows that access to HE is unequal. There is an urgent need to address the inequality at the heart of HE across the world and we hope that WAHED can become a vehicle to do this. – Dr. Graeme Atherton, Director of NEON
WAHED is also supported by educational institutions from around the world, some of which are participating in the different activities of the day. Over 100 organisations from 30 countries will be involved in the first WAHED. Events will include series of hub conferences across the world where organizations and individuals can showcase innovative access and diversity measures undertaken in their own countries. In addition, a global student voices campaign will be mobilized to capture stories of marginalized students from various communities.
