Women are the majority of students in Moroccan public universities — in nearly every field of study

Morocco public university female enrollment share by field of study 2024-2025

Women make up 56% of all students enrolled in Morocco’s public university system in 2024-25 — a majority that holds across nearly every field, not just a national average driven by a few large disciplines.

The female share is highest in Teacher Training (76.4%) and Education Sciences (75.4%), and remains above 50% in Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering Sciences, Business and Management, and the Sciences. Sports Science is one of the few fields where women remain a minority, at 42.6% of enrollment.

This is a striking figure relative to public debate about gender and education in the region, and it raises a natural follow-up question the data alone can’t answer: whether this enrollment parity — and in most fields, majority — translates into equivalent outcomes in graduation rates, further study, and the labour market.
