Tunis, 27–28 November 2018: UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences in the Arab States – Cairo jointly with UNESCO HQ organized a two-days event to launch the project supporting youth employment in the Mediterranean for Libya.
The inception meeting gathered a diverse group of key Libyan stakeholders from the relevant ministries (Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labor) and private sector representatives, in addition to international development partners who are active in the field of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Libya.
During the course of the two days, participants engaged in extensive discussions and working group sessions, which resulted in proposals for potential activities taking into account actual needs and ground realities in Libya. The inception report and proposed national workplan for Libya will be shared with the EU for final approval, in order to launch national activities by early 2019.
Libya adds up to a list of eight other beneficiary countries of YEM, which includes: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.
YEM is a three-year project funded by the European Union, which was launched by UNESCO in 2018. YEM adopts a regional and sub-regional approach to support national authorities, together with the private sector, TVET providers and youth organizations in the SouthMediterranean design, implement and evaluate relevant technical and vocational education and training policies, strategies and programs.
